I really hate trying to condense my existence into an “about me” page, but I’ll try. I live in Colorado with my wife. I’ve got 2 stepchildren, although I think the “step” word is dumb. I’m a military brat and had the awesome opportunity to travel all around the world while growing up. My dad retired from the Air Force in upstate New York (Plattsburgh), which is some fantastic, beautiful country! I have one rambunctious granddaughter. I’m a self taught artist who loves working in the digital realms. I was never a fan of film, and never really could afford to experiment with it as much as I would’ve liked at the time. When I was introduced to a digital camera for the first time, it was really game-changing!
I prefer to shoot mostly landscapes because they tell a longer, better story than most people can. That’s not to say that I won’t photograph people, but I tend to go with what’s familiar. I caught the shutterbug from a friend in NY, Jeremy, who was a housemate taking photography in college all those years ago. He let me borrow with film camera, a Pentax if I remember correctly, and some black and white film. I drove over to Lake Placid and shot the whole role. I was hooked. I’m not sure if I ever told him, but thanks Jeremy! At some point I’ll put up a small gallery of those first pictures as I still think they are nice. There is an obvious “newbie” and “eager to shoot” quality about some of them, but others aren’t too bad, in my book.
Since about 2006 I’ve been heavily involved in digital design, including web, logo and corporate identities. In 2007 I landed awesome job within the US Air Force Space Command as a graphic designer. That job requires some pretty exacting work and has expanded to included web application interface design, and C# and JavaScript programming as well. The unfortunate part is that I can’t show off any of the really cool stuff I’ve helped create because of what it’s used for.
Hobbies (besides more photography, design and drawing): Hiking, travel, and games.
Interests (besides the obvious art stuff): Medieval European history, computers/technology, the human animal, comedy (I’m told I’m a pretty funny fellow), Religion, Spirituality
Shooting gear: It’s really basic for me – Cannon EOS REbel T1i with a couple of lenses (I got a good deal on the body plus 2 lenses for about $2k). I’m not one who subscribes to the idea that $9k cameras produce better shots, just larger credit card bills. I use a Manfrotto tripod, when needed. I carry all my kit in a Maxpedition Jumbo Versipak, which I think is so tough-wearing that it’ll be something I hand off to my grand kids!
