Small town meets big box

Everyone who knows me knows that I’m not a big fan of Wal-Mart. Spending money with them strengthens China’s economy more than ours, they would rather eek out a few more cents profit than add quality control standards which who really go along way toward keeping lead out of the product our families get from there.

Battle House 2011, Even Battle-ier

Battlehouse2011.png
So today marks an epic moment in the history of mankind…or at least this man. For today begins the war of the chores. The task lists were compiled all winter long, and now with nice days happening more often than not, the check boxes must inevitably be addressed and, dare I say it, checked. → continue reading...

Repair Time

I'm not sure why it works out this way, but it always seems that autumn is the time for home repairs and upgrades, for us at least. I'm pretty sure our focus will be on the kitchen, bathroom inside and the skirting around the foundation on the outside.

MapQuest iPhone App

I've used my fair share of GPS applications for my iDevices. Whether geocaching, hiking, or whatever, I've had the opportunity to use a lot of them. I've also had the chance to use actual GPS devices, and some pretty spiffy ones at that. Most of the apps don't live up to their hype. I think it's because app developers sometimes forget to distance themselves from their own marketing bullshit and stay focused on developing a solid, useful application.

Killing with kindness

If you're like me, you grew up in a household where plants were everywhere. They were all over the house, and there was a highly productive garden in the back yard. I grew up learning how to care for and appreciate plants of all kinds. So how did I become the smiling plant assassin?

Where does your food come from?

One of the best things about growing your own food is knowing from exactly where it comes. The next time you visit your local grocery store, be sure to read the little labels on fruits and vegetables; you'll be surprised by all the different locations.
