Battle House 2011, Even Battle-ier
So today marks an epic moment in the history of mankind…or at least this man. For today begins the war of the chores. The task lists were compiled all winter long, and now with nice days happening more often than not, the check boxes must inevitably be addressed and, dare I say it, checked. You see gentle reader, those who know my story know about the epic migration of my wife and I to a completely new life, new land, new culture and new ways of shopping. Moving from Colorado Springs to a very, very tiny town in Missouri is not for the faint of heart, let me assure you.
When we first moved here, we were graciously given use of a rather run-down, beat up and somewhat neglected mobile home. We had some battles to deal with from the very first day, like establishing running water. We cried tears of anguish, frustration and hopelessness on a couple of occasions and the war with this place eventually led to us calling it The Battlehouse.
2010 saw some serious victories for us, and a couple of defeats and set backs, however, 2011 is our year. I mean, we’re supposed to be winning the future, right? So I present the first small victory in the 2011 War of the Battlehouse…the back skirting. Whether it was the ravages of storms or improperly installed, the skirting at the back of this place was just about off and used to slap against the house during any wind. It was very loud and annoying, and that just won’t do. With some effort, but ZERO duct tape, I have fixed it. You’ll notice it’s still not perfect. That’ because the dirt has washed away some and the channeling which the skirting sits in to low down now.
This means that we also have a water/rain runoff issue because it’s bad for that to run under the place instead of around it. I may end up doing a french drain system around the perimeter to address the problem. We’ll see.
